The story of life,
told in wood and bronze.
“His aim is not simply to carve or forge them, but to tell the story of one or more situations.”
From the catalogue “Roland Perathoner — Scultore Bildhauer Sculptor”. His musicians and seated figures stand out against abstract backgrounds — as though they were theatre players about to celebrate the continuous rhythm of existence.

From the clay model
to the finished wood.
Sketch, clay model, roughing out, polychromy. Weeks with mallet and chisel, until Swiss stone pine, lime or walnut holds the posture the story needs. Bronzes are cast at the Fonderia.

“The story of life unfolds through the work of Roland Perathoner, a sculptor who works both wood and bronze, to create his symbolic figures.”

Who is Roland Perathoner?
Roland Perathoner is a sculptor in Selva di Val Gardena (Wolkenstein) in South Tyrol, Italy. He works in wood and bronze alike, using mainly Swiss stone pine, lime and walnut. At the centre of his work are symbolic figures: musicians, seated figures, mothers with children and children's heads. He is a member of UNIKA, the association of Val Gardena artists.
Where is the studio?
The studio is at Via Col da Lech 20 in I-39048 Selva di Val Gardena (Wolkenstein), in the province of Bolzano, South Tyrol. A visit is possible by arrangement — a call beforehand on +39 333 720 28 28 is enough.
Which materials does Roland Perathoner use?
In wood he uses above all Swiss stone pine, lime and walnut, often polychromed and heightened in places with gold leaf. There are also bronzes, cast at a foundry, as well as Corten steel for work in public space.
Can a work be commissioned?
Yes. Commissions for sacred spaces, for public space and for private collections are carried out by his own hand, from the sketch through the clay model to the finished polychromy. The place always comes first: dimensions, viewing distance and light determine the design.
